Red Sox dishonest bad weather behavior could wreck Phillies' night and schedule

Don't do this.

The Boston Red Sox under John Henry have devolved from baseball's gold standard to a mostly dishonest revolving door in recent years. Their fans, despite four titles since 2004/status as the winningest modern franchise, have had enough. And (sigh), as much as we'd like to dismiss everything Boston fans have to say out of hand, they actually might be right about some elements of the disrespect. On Thursday night, that transparent phoniness could come back to bite the Phillies.

Just a few days back on May 9, the Sox forced fans to wait around through several hours of pregame purchasing before bagging a game against the Tampa Bay Rays due to a storm that everyone could've foreseen.

So far, just about 3.5 hours before first pitch, the Sox are again forcing visiting Phillies fans AND the home faithful to sit through uncertainty for a game that's been paired with a daunting forecast for days now. 85-90% heavy rain has been the norm for anyone who's checked in recent days.

Anyone surprised that the game is currently still on, with an ownership group that's become increasingly beholden to the almighty dollar?

When could Phillies and Red Sox play series finale as weather concerns loom?

The Sox and Phillies have several overlapping off days for the rest of the season. They could make a pitstop between Atlanta and Washington on Sept. 14, if need be, or a layover between Citi Field and Citizens Bank on Sept. 21.

None of this is fun! But it's marginally better than attempting to stuff a series wrapper in the wet weather on Thursday in the name of Red Sox ownership selling a few more cold beers in Sox Cooler Cups (which'll probably be sold out anyway).

If this game is played, it'll be Jesús Luzardo facing off against beloved ex-Phil Ranger Suarez, and the Phillies' bullpen is slightly depleted (after Don Mattingly pulled Andrew Painter early on Thursday to raise the righty's confidence).

The game should not be played. It probably won't be played. But it also won't be called until a large percentage of Sox fans have made their way through the team shop and purchased their plush Wally the Green Monsters and "Phillies vs. Red Sox: THE RIVALRY" t-shirts.
