At this point, all fans of the Philadelphia Phillies know the name Zach Eflin. Over the course of a seven-year career with the club, he had shown immense promise only to miss significant time with injuries and at times struggled with consistency.
Now a member of the Tampa Bay Rays, Eflin has having himself a career year. In 17 outings, he is 10-4 with a 3.25 ERA, 3.12 FIP and 124 ERA+ through 102.1 innings of work. Along the way, he has seen a dramatic increase in strikeouts and dramatic decrease in walks from as recent as last season.
However, what Eflin has done on the field takes second place to what he does off of the field. Long a popular member of the Philadelphia community, he is once again reminding everyone why he is one of the easiest baseball players to root for in today's game, regardless of what team he plays for.
Former Phillies pitcher Zach Eflin reminds everyone why he's still the man with latest charitable efforts
On July 23rd in Tampa, Florida, Eflin is set to host his teammates and fans to raise money for a cause called 2nd Milk. The event is called "Swinging for Impact" and individual tickets are going to cost $250 each or $400 for a pair. Every ticket purchased will include golf with a Rays player, food, and three tickets for beer and/or wine. The winning team wins a three-month Topgolf platinum elite membership for up to six people.
All proceeds from this event are going to be split between 2nd Milk and Children's Cancer Center.
While it is too late for fans to sign up now, anyone who signed up for the event prior to 11:59pm ET on June 7th was entered to win an autographed jersey from Eflin himself.
Followers of the Phillies may remember that Eflin (and then-teammate Kyle Gibson) participated in a past Swinging for Impact in August of 2022. At that time, the two were joined by Brad Hand, Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Corey Knebel, Rob Thomson and a whole slew of other teammates.
Aside from that, Eflin also raised money in the form of a "Strikeout Campaign" to raise money for Kisses for Kyle. Every strikeout he recorded during the 2022 season provided financial support for families battling childhood cancer.
Through and through, Zach Eflin is everything right with today's game of baseball. A charitable man off the field and a strong pitcher on the field, he remains an easy person to root for, even if he's no longer a member of the Phillies.
