The Philadelphia Phillies' trip to Arizona could have become nightmare fuel for Phillies fans. Still, the Fightins managed to salvage the final game in the three-game set and now come home for a pivotal Game 6 on Monday that could see them clinch the NL pennant for a second straight year.
Ace Zack Wheeler locked in on Saturday night and ensured his team had the best chance possible to come away with at least one win and a 3-2 lead in the NLCS. He dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Phillies 6-1 victory in Game 5. He went seven innings deep, scattering six hits and only giving up one run while striking out eight.
On the other side of the ball, the Phillies bats woke up and got back to your home run slugging ways. After they jumped on Arizona's Zac Gallen early with two runs in the first inning, including a double steal of home, the power surge sealed the deal in the later innings.
Kyle Schwarber hit a 461-foot moonshot to lead off the sixth, and Bryce Harper followed close behind with a 444-foot bomb of his own. J.T. Realmuto added insurance runs late, with a two-run homer in the eighth.
The Phillies have the best no. 2 option going for them tonight in Game 6 of the NLCS, with Aaron Nola taking the bump. The Diamondbacks will send out Merrill Kelly in a rematch of Game 2 from earlier in the series.
