It’s rough times for the Colorado Rockies right now. The Pittsburgh Pirates just came to town and swept them to extend the losing streak to eight-straight. Now, they follow the Pirates back to Pennsylvania, just the other side of the state, to begin a four-game weekend series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Rockies are 5-14 and last in the NL West and the Phillies are 8-11 and fourth in the NL East.

Today, Ryan Feltner looks to end the Rockies losing-streak as he gets the start on the mound. Matt Strahm goes for the Phillies. Feltner is 0-2 with an 8.78 ERA, while Strahm is 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA in four appearances, three of them starts.

Let’s take a look at the odds for the Rockies and Phillies.

Rockies vs. Phillies odds, spread and total

Rockies vs. Phillies prediction and pick

The Rockies are 2-7 on the road, are amidst a huge losing skid and against the Pirates lost 14-3 twice in the series. I repeat, the Pirates put up two touchdowns twice in a three-game series. This Colorado pitching staff is awful and it’s not because of the elevation. Feltner has yet to have a quality start, he gave up five runs in 3.2 innings last time out and his best start of the season, he went five innings and allowed three runs.

Feltner not getting length exposes the Colorado bullpen which currently has a 4.56 ERA. They’re in trouble against Philadelphia who got off to a slow start at the plate, but in the last seven days is fifth in team OPS. Yesterday, Trea Turner hit his first homer as a Phillie and his OPS is up to .819. Turner has an .889 OPS In the last seven days and is clearly heating up.

Feltner is in the seventh percentile in walk rate, but Philly is 22nd in walks this season, so they’ll need to be more patient at the plate. I think the Rockies get a better start from the right hander, but I can’t bet on the coldest team in baseball. I think the Phillies roll, especially once they get into the Colorado bullpen.
