Phillies vs. Reds: Lineups, probable starters, how to watch for April 3
The lineups are set as Zack Wheeler and the Philadelphia Phillies prepare to take on Frankie Montas and the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park.
The Philadelphia Phillies (2-3) will look to win their first series of the 2024 season when they take on the Cincinnati Reds (3-2) in the series finale on Wednesday. Despite wet and cold weather on Tuesday, the Phillies came away with a much-needed 9-4 win thanks to Bryce Harper's three-home run, six RBI breakout and strong showings on the mound from starter Spencer Turnbull and reliever Ricardo Pinto.
The original 1:05 p.m. ET start time for this contest was pushed back to 4:05 p.m. ET in hopes that the rain would relent and allow the Phillies and Reds to finish the series. There's still a chance it could be postponed, so check the weather updates for more information.
Phillies vs. Reds probable pitchers
- Zack Wheeler will climb the bump for his second start of the season. The righty was masterful on Opening Day against the Atlanta Braves, throwing six scoreless frames and scattering five hits while striking out five. Last season, the Phillies ace faced the Reds once, giving up two runs on five hits, with five strikeouts and three walks in 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision.
- The Reds will counter with right-hander Frankie Montas. The 31-year-old will make his second start of the year for his new team after winning his debut on Opening Day with a six-inning shutout of the Washington Nationals. Montas only pitched 1 1/3 innings for the New York Yankees at the end of 2023 after recovering from shoulder surgery. He has a career 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, mostly with the Oakland Athletics.
