The Phillies offense has struggled in San Francisco, scoring only three runs in both games, both of which were losses.
Philadelphia will look to scrap together a win to close out the three game series against the Giants on the road with free agent signing Taijuan Walker toeing the rubber. Can he outduel Giants starter Ross Stripling and get the club back on track?
I'm eyeing the total in this one, let's get to the odds and my best bet.
Phillies vs. Giants odds, run line and total
Phillies vs. Giants prediction and pick
I'm not sure that I can trust Walker just yet, who has a 5.75 ERA in eight starts for Philadelphia. He has allowed a career high of home runs, nearly two per nine innings and is walking almost four batters per nine innings.
Walker is making it very difficult for himself by lacking control and the Giants are a team that can make him pay with the 11th highest slugging percentage in baseball.
However, the Phillies lineup is more than capable of matching the Giants ability to leave the yard. Philadelphia is 10th in slugging percentage and have the likes of Bryce Harper and Trea Turner in the heart of the order. The club also draws a favorable matchup against Stripling of the Giants, who has allowed the most home runs in the National League (10) and is allowing more than 11 hits per nine innings.
The Phillies are elite at putting the ball in play and will plate enough runs to give Walker some run support. I can't trust the righty to hold up long enough and for the Phillies leaky bullpen (bottom 10 in unit ERA) to wrap up a victory, but I do think both offenses are in for a big day at the dish.
