The Philadelphia Phillies announced a minor trade during Tuesday night's 10-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber, the Phillies have reacquired Tyler Gilbert from the Cincinnati Reds for cash considerations.

Gilbert, a left-handed pitcher, was a Phillies sixth-round draft pick in 2015. The 30-year-old spent five years in the Phillies minor league system before being dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020 for outfielder Kyle Garlick (subscription required).

Gilbert eventually found his way to the Arizona Diamondbacks through the Rule 5 Draft. He made his MLB debut in 2021, and threw a no-hitter in his first major league start against the San Diego Padres. He finished the year with a 3.15 ERA in 40 innings across nine games (six starts). He struggled to a 5.23 ERA in 51 2/3 innings over the last two seasons, spending most of his time with the Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate.

He signed with the Reds as a free agent this past offseason but posted a 13.11 ERA in 11 2/3 innings with the Triple-A Louisville Bats.

As a minor leaguer with Philadelphia, Gilbert made it to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2018 as a 24-year-old. He pitched to a 3.63 ERA in 34 2/3 innings as a reliever, registering 28 strikeouts and three saves in 25 games. In 2019, he appeared in 36 games for the IronPigs, posting a 2.83 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.

Gilbert becomes more pitching depth for the Phillies and will report to Triple-A. He'll suit up for the IronPigs for the first time since that 2019 season. The Phillies will see what he has left in the tank and if he can rediscover his 2021 form.

The Phillies front office found success with Spencer Turnbull's depth signing this offseason. Turnbull, who also has a no-hitter in his past, came with injury and underperformance baggage, so the Phillies will hope they can unlock something in their newest acquisition from the Reds.
