Kyle Schwarber departed the Philadelphia Phillies game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night in the bottom of the fourth inning after a back-pick play at first base.

Schwarber walked in the bottom of the third inning and after a pitch in the dirt with Trea Turner batting, Rays catcher Logan Driscoll fired to first base to try and nab Schwarber off the base. Schwarber did a swim move with his left arm to avoid the tag. The game at the time was tied at two runs.

Once Schwarber's DH spot came back up in the lineup, Buddy Kennedy came in to pinch-hit. It was later announced by Matt Gelb of The Athletic that Schwarber left the game due to left arm discomfort (subscription required). The injury occurred when Schwarber slid back to the bag.

It would be a huge blow yet again for the Phillies if Schwarber has to miss any time with the Phillies' position players continuing to drop.

Schwarber was on quite a high earlier in the game as he lead off the game with his MLB-record 14th leadoff home run this season. The blast traveled 437 feet and clocked at 113.9 mph off the bat.

On the season, Schwarber is batting .251/.372/496, good for an .868 OPS. He hit his 35th home run on Tuesday and drove in his 95th RBI. Schwarber is possibly having his best overall season yet as a Phillie, as he has jumped his batting average up 54 points while maintaining his exceptional walk rate.

Schwarber fell into lulls earlier in the season, but has cranked up the power as of late. In his last 8 games, Schwarber has smacked seven home runs and has driven in 12 runs. He is also slugging a cool 1.000 through the month of September.

Update: Following the game, manager Rob Thomson told reporters that Schwarber has a bruised elbow with a slight hyperextension, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber. The team thinks he may be able to play tomorrow.
