The Philadelphia Phillies (94-65) open their final series of the regular season on Friday with a three-game set against the Washington Nationals (69-90) at Nationals Park.

After a series with the Chicago Cubs that saw the Phillies clinch the NL East and a first-round bye for the MLB playoffs, they're on the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the National League. Coming into Friday's action, they trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by 1.0 game after the Dodgers clinched the NL West on Thursday.

The Nationals, who were eliminated from postseason contention eons ago, come into this series 1-9 in their last 10. Sitting fourth in the division, the struggling Nationals just got swept by the Kansas City Royals.

Ranger Suárez (12-7) will make his final start of the season for the Phillies. The lefty has a 3.15 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 26 starts. It has been a struggle for Suárez in the second half after spending time on the IL. He's 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in four September starts.

Trevor Williams (5-1) will counter for the Nationals. The 32-year-old right-hander has a 2.19 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 12 starts this season. He has made only one second-half start after spending almost four months on the IL with a flexor muscle strain. Williams faced the Phillies in May, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
