The NL East-leading Phillies come into the series in Toronto with a 7.0 game lead over the Atlanta Braves after taking three of four at home against their division rivals. With a series win against the Houston Astros on the just concluded home stand, things are looking up in Philly-land. They've won three straight series and 12 of their last 18 games since Aug. 14.
The Blue Jays come into the series 6-4 in their last 10 games after dropping two of three to the Minnesota Twins on the weekend. They're currently last in the AL East, 13.5 games back, and 8.0 games out of the AL Wild Card, and are in the process of seeing what they have in some of their talented younger players for next season.

- Tyler Phillips (4-1) will open the series for the Phillies after being recalled when rosters expanded on Sunday. The lefty has a 5.50 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in seven games (six starts). He had a rough time in his last three starts for the Phillies, posting a 13.91 ERA over 11 innings.
- Chris Bassitt (9-13) will counter for the Blue Jays. The 35-year-old right-hander has a 4.27 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 27 starts. He posted a 5.34 ERA in five August starts and went 6 2/3 innings against the Red Sox last time out, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
