Philadelphia Phillies probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. St. Louis Cardinals, August 25
A look at everything you need to know, as the Phillies continue their homestand with the first of three games versus the struggling Cardinals.

The Phillies (69-58) suffered a tough end to the Giants series, as they ultimately lost the finale after Bryce Harper dramatically forced extra innings. They have at least maintained the first wild card spot in the NL, but the gap is shrinking. With this in mind, it's a good time to host a Cardinals (56-72) ballclub with the second-worst record in the NL. Not that it will be an easy series (think Nationals), but it's still imperative the Phillies find a way to take at least two of the three games over the weekend.
Probable starting pitchers
- Cristopher Sánchez (1-3) continues to be a pleasant surprise, with a breakout campaign during his third year in the Majors. He has only once allowed more than three earned runs in his 12 starts, on the way to a decent 3.36 ERA and strong 1.026 WHIP. Sánchez also has a 22.7 percent strikeout rate and impressive 4.7 percent walk rate. Last time out he allowed seven hits, no walks and three runs (two earned) in 6.0 innings versus the Nationals, while also striking out five in a Phillies win.
- Maybe it's the combination of the moustache and wearing the classic/timeless St. Louis Cardinals jersey, but Miles Mikolas (6-9) makes you think you've gone back in time. Actually, he probably wishes he could go back in time, to last year's All-Star season which featured a (qualifying) career-low 1.033 WHIP. This year has been a struggle for Mikolas with a 4.55 ERA and 1.300 WHIP, although he continues to tough it out, highlighted by the most starts in the Majors. His last game against the Mets saw him give up seven hits, two walks and a season-high seven earned runs in 4.2 innings.
