Philadelphia Phillies probable pitchers & starting lineups vs New York Yankees, July 29
The lineups are set as the Phillies open a three-game series against the Yankees at Citizens Bank Park.
The Philadelphia Phillies (65-40) will try to bounce back from a disappointing stretch in which they've dropped four straight series — three since coming out of the All-Star break. They'll welcome the New York Yankees (62-45) to town on Monday to begin a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.
Over the weekend, the Phillies lost two of three to the Cleveland Guardians, with rookie and local hero Tyler Phillips tossing a complete game shutout in Saturday's 8-0 win. Despite the recent scuffling, the Phillies remain 8.5 games up on the Atlanta Braves in the NL East and 2.0 games ahead of the recently departed Guardians for the best record in baseball.
The Yankees come into the series after winning their two games on the weekend and are 4-6 in their last 10. They sit 1.0 game back in the AL East but hold the first AL Wild Card spot.
Phillies vs. Yankees probable pitchers, July 29
- Zack Wheeler (10-4) will make his 21st start of the season for the Phillies. The ace comes in with a 2.55 ERA and 0.98 WHIP after a dominating performance against the Twins last time out. He took a no-decision despite throwing seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball, striking out seven while walking two.
- Luis Gil (10-5) will take the ball for the Yankees today. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 3.10 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 20 starts this season. After starting the year as one of the top starters in MLB, Gil had a rough June before putting together three strong outings around the All-Star break.
