The weekend didn't end how the Philadelphia Phillies (28-13) would have liked or how anyone expected. After a surprising 10-inning loss in Miami, the Phillies will have to pick themselves back up as they head to Queens to take on another NL East rival, the New York Mets (19-20).

The Phillies and Mets will meet for the first time this season in a home-and-home series, with the first two coming at Citi Field before heading to Philly for a pair at Citizens Bank Park. The Mets sit 8.0 games back of the Phillies in the division but are coming off a rousing ninth-inning walk-off win against the NL East rival Braves. Brandon Nimmo supplied the home run heroics for the Mets on Sunday Night Baseball, which helped to preserve the Phils two-game cushion for first in the division.

Kyle Schwarber remains out of the lineup for the third straight game with a sore back. J.T. Realmuto is still out with right knee soreness. Per The Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber, the catcher isn't concerned about an IL stint yet and hopes to return in the coming days.

Phillies vs. Mets probable pitchers, May 13

  • Cristopher Sánchez (2-3) makes his eighth start tonight. He lowered his ERA to 3.22 ERA and his WHIP to 1.46 after his last outing against the Blue Jays. He held Toronto to one run on six hits over seven innings while striking out five and walking two. Sánchez went 1-1 in three games (two starts) against the Mets in 2023. He allowed five runs and struck out 15 while walking just one in his 13 innings against them.
  • Sean Manaea (2-1) will take the mound for the home team tonight. In his first season in New York, the 32-year-old left-hander has been serviceable as a full-time starter, with a 3.31 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in seven games. Aside from an eight-run blow-up against the Royals, he has kept teams in check, which is surprising since he has allowed 19 walks in 29 1/3 innings. Phillies fans have fond memories of facing Manaea during Game 4 of the 2022 NLCS, in case you forgot.
