The Phillies finished their regular season on a positive note, as they beat the Mets 9-1 on Sunday afternoon. You can make the argument this year's team is better than last year, when they surprised a lot of experts by going all the way to the World Series. Of course, this is no guarantee a return trip is on the horizon, but at least the Phillies have the necessary experience. First things first though they need to get past the Marlins, who actually won the head-to-head season series 7-6.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Zack Wheeler (13-6) is coming off a regular season where he showed why he's the Phillies' staff ace, leading all pitchers with 4.2 WAR and 21 quality starts. He set new single-season bests with a .684 win percentage and 5.0 percent walk-rate. Wheeler also produced a 3.61 ERA, 3.15 FIP and 1.07 WHIP. Last time out, he allowed four hits, a walk and one run in 4.0 innings versus the Pirates.
  • Jesús Luzardo (10-9) gets the nod for the Marlins on Tuesday night, after emerging as the most reliable member of the rotation. He leads the team in starts, quality starts and WAR. Luzardo set a new career-high with 32 outings, as he recorded a 3.63 ERA, 3.55 FIP and 1.22 WHIP. In his previous game against the Brewers, he gave up a trio of hits, walks and runs in 5.0 innings.
