Things are looking up for the Phillies (58-49) both on and off the field. They acquired All-Star pitcher Michael Lorenzen prior to the trade deadline and guaranteed they can't lose the crucial Marlins (57-51) series, after winning 3-1 on Tuesday night in dramatic fashion. Philadelphia maintains a wild card spot in the NL, but there's still plenty to do with a logjam of teams competing for the playoffs. They'll help themselves if they can at least split the remaining two games in Miami.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Zack Wheeler (8-5) has an ERA of 3.74 which is on course to be his highest since 2019, but it's not exacty terrible. Besides, he's currently on course for a career-best FIP (2.74) and to match another career-best of 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings. Wheeler is a staple in the Phillies rotation, tied-first among all pitchers with 2.4 WAR. His last outing was a beauty versus the Pirates, as he allowed just three hits and one earned run in 6.2 innings, striking out 11 in the process.
  • Facing Braxton Garrett (5-3), who is having a decent season in Miami. While his 4.08 ERA might not jump out, he also has a 1.179 WHIP, while leading the NL with 1.4 walks per nine innings. The southpaw was tremendous in his previous start against the Tigers, giving up just five hits and one earned run in 6.0 innings. From a Phillies perspective, it is worth noting Garrett only has four quality starts in his 20 outings in the rotation.
