The slumping Philadelphia Phillies (69-50) will attempt to break their latest four-game losing streak when they host the Miami Marlins (45-75) in the finale of the quick two-game series on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.

Tuesday's return home didn't go well for the struggling Phillies, losing 5-0 in Taijuan Walker's return from the IL. The boo birds arrived early at The Bank after a tough first inning for Walker. He finished his up and down night allowing three runs through four innings.

He certainly didn't get any help from the Phillies offense. The helpless-looking lineup managed just four hits against Marlins rookie starter Valente Bellozo, who went seven shutout frames with four strikeouts.

The loss, combined with an Atlanta Braves win, narrowed the gap at the top of the NL East to 6.0 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers won again and are now 1.5 games clear of the Phillies for the top record in the NL.

Phillies vs. Marlins probable pitchers, August 14

  • Tyler Phillips (4-1) will start for the Phillies tonight. The rookie right-hander has a 4.83 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in six games (five starts). He went 1-1 on the road trip, bouncing back with a decent outing against the Dodgers after a shellacking at the hands of the Mariners. He allowed four runs on six hits to Los Angeles, mostly thanks to bad luck and questionable defense.
  • Edward Cabrera (2-3) will counter for the Marlins today. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 5.20 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 12 starts. He has pitched well in his last two starts, shutting out the Braves and Padres over 12 combined innings, allowing seven hits and five walks while striking out 12.
