It's a battle of star-studded first-place teams as the Philadelphia Phillies (58-32) welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers (55-36) on Tuesday for a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies will have two of their biggest stars back in the lineup, with Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper returning from the 10-day IL.

The Phillies are coming off a discouraging series loss in Atlanta, where they dropped two of three to the Braves. The lone bright spot in Sunday's 6-0 loss was Tyler Phillips' electric MLB debut. The rookie showed some filthy stuff, striking out seven Braves in four innings.

Now 5-5 in their last 10 games, the Phillies still sit atop the NL East with a 7.5-game lead, but the task at hand isn't much easier with the Dodgers in town.

The Dodgers are fresh off a series win against the Brewers and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. They lead the NL West by 7.5 games over the Padres and come into this series with a +104 run differential and a 27-17 record on the road.

Phillies vs. Dodgers probable pitchers, July 9

  • Zack Wheeler (9-4) will open the series for the Phillies. The righty comes into his 19th start with a 2.74 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. The now two-time All-Star took a no-decision in his last start, holding the Cubs to two runs on five hits while striking out seven over six innings.
  • Bobby Miller (1-1) will counter for the Dodgers. The 25-year-old righty has a 6.12 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in only six starts this season after spending time on the IL. Miller enters tonight with a 9.00 K/9, but that comes with a high 5.40 BB/9 as he has battled his command this season.
