The Philadelphia Phillies (66-46) will square off with the Los Angeles Dodgers (66-47) on Tuesday in an attempt to even up the three-game series after dropping Monday's opener. The 5-3 loss was the Phillies' seventh in the last eight games, and they're now in danger of losing the top record in the National League — to the Dodgers.

After the Phillies jumped on Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow in the second inning for a pair of runs, it looked like they might be able to put up enough offense to back Aaron Nola. Unfortunately, Nola lost it in the third and got hit hard for four runs. That's all Glasnow needed, and he cruised to his ninth win of the season, striking out nine Phillies in six innings.

The loss, just one day after what looked like a slump-busting win in Seattle, is the Phillies' 12th in 16 games since the All-Star break.

Phillies vs. Dodgers probable pitchers, August 6

  • Cristopher Sánchez (7-7) will start for the Phillies. The left-hander comes in with a 3.36 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 21 starts. Sánchez had a rough July, posting a 1-4 record with a 6.59 ERA in five starts. His lone win came against the Dodgers when he gave up two runs on five hits over six innings of work.
  • Clayton Kershaw (0-1) will make just his third start of the season for the Dodgers today. Coming off shoulder surgery, the 36-year-old lefty has allowed nine runs (five earned) in 7 2/3 innings and didn't register a strikeout in his last outing against the Padres.
