The first battle of first-place teams went to the home side, as the Philadelphia Phillies (59-32) bludgeoned the Los Angeles Dodgers (55-37) on Tuesday in a decidedly lopsided 10-1 smackdown.

The Phillies jumped all over Dodgers starter Bobby Miller, scoring nine runs on 10 hits in four innings off the youngster, capped by a Trea Turner grand slam.

The Phillies did have a couple of things go awry in what was an otherwise light-hearted affair at Citizens Bank Park. Starter Zack Wheeler was removed after five innings with lower back tightness. Luckily, it sounds like nothing. Johan Rojas left the game after getting plunked on the wrist in the seventh, but the team didn't even take X-rays.

The Phillies will try to secure the series win tonight, with starter Cristopher Sánchez looking for a bounce-back game. They'll have to do it without Bryce Harper, who's nursing a bruised hand.

Phillies vs. Dodgers probable pitchers, July 10

  • Cristopher Sánchez (6-4) will start for the Phillies. The left-hander has a 2.96 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 17 starts. The June NL Pitcher of the Month had a rough start to July. He took a loss against the Cubs on July 4, allowing seven runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking three.
  • Gavin Stone (9-2) will take the ball for the Dodgers. The 25-year-old righty has a 3.03 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 16 starts this season, with 73 strikeouts in 92 innings. Like Sánchez, Stone had a strong June but started July off on the wrong foot, allowing four runs on seven hits in three innings against the Diamondbacks in his last start.
