The Philadelphia Phillies (8-8) can't seem to get out of their own way early in the season. They stumbled to a series split against the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend and now welcome the Colorado Rockies (4-12) to Citizens Bank Park for three games.

After winning a thrilling ninth-inning walk-off on Saturday, Zack Wheeler didn't get much help on Sunday in a 9-2 loss. The Phillies ace looked sharp with 10 strikeouts through five innings, but one mistake to Jack Suwinski in the sixth inning led to a grand slam and Wheeler's exit from the game.

After Alec Bohm whiffed on a routine grounder to open the frame, a walk and a single loaded the bases before Suwinski's knockout blow turned a 2-1 Phillies lead into a 5-2 deficit. As has been the case most of the season, the Phillies' bats weren't up to mounting a comeback, and the Pirates pulled away in the late innings.

With the Rockies in town, the Phillies have a golden opportunity to finish their season-long 10-game homestand on a positive note. The Rockies sit last in the NL West and are coming off a series loss in Toronto. They put up 12 runs on the Blue Jays on Friday night but were shut down for the remainder of the weekend, managing just three runs over the final two games.

Phillies vs. Rockies probable pitchers, April 15

  • Aaron Nola (2-1) gets the ball for the series opener. While there's a slight chance of showers around game time, the right-hander will be glad for warmer temperatures after gutting through his last start in St. Louis. Nola comes in with a 4.50 ERA over 16 innings. After a rough first game, he settled down in the last two starts and has a 1.54 ERA and 1.03 in 11 2/3 innings. However, he has battled command, issuing seven free passes in those two games.
  • Left-hander Cal Quantrill (0-2) will counter for the Rockies. The 29-year-old has a 7.20 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in three starts this season. He has thrown 15 innings, struck out 10 and allowed at least three runs in each outing. The Canadian hurler didn't face the Phillies last season while in the AL with the Cleveland Guardians and has only faced them once in his career. In his 2019 debut season, Quantrill picked up a no-decision after striking out seven Phillies in five innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
