Philadelphia Phillies probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Cincinnati Reds, April 25
The Phillies will try to salvage a series split on Thursday.
The Philadelphia Phillies (15-10) and Cincinnati Reds (14-10) will finish their season series on Thursday, with the Phillies hoping to come away with a split of this four-game set before heading to the West Coast.
After losing two in a row, the Phillies come into action today 3.0 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, while the Reds are 1.5 games back in the tight NL Central. Philadelphia will welcome Bryce Harper back to the lineup. He was away from the team for the birth of his third child.
The Phillies didn't do themselves any favors on Wednesday, losing 7-4 at Great American Ball Park. The relievers stumbled out of the bullpen, wasting Spencer Turnbull's excellent start. Despite his imminent removal from the rotation, Turnbull gave the Phillies' decision-makers every reason to second-guess themselves.
The right-hander held the Reds to one run on three hits over five innings. He struck out eight, walked three and now boasts the second-lowest ERA (1.33) among qualified NL starters. Unfortunately, the 3-1 lead he turned over to the bullpen didn't last. Seranthony Domínguez, Matt Strahm, Gregory Soto and José Alvarado combined to give up six runs on seven hits over three innings.
