The Phillies and White Sox prepare for the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday. In the first game, the Phillies held on to win the game in 7-4 fashion the heels of big offensive days for Josh Harrison (3-for-4, HR, 4 RBI) and Nick Castellanos (3-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI). Phillies ace Zack Wheeler earned the win, his first of the year, while José Alvarado earned the first save of his 2023 season.

Phillies vs. White Sox, probable starting pitchers for Game 2, April 18 doubleheader

  • Left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter will get the start for the Phillies in this one. The 25-year-old has made three starts so far this year, posting a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings of work. While he has had some issues limiting baserunners, Falter has displayed some exceptional control, walking just one batter while walking nine.
  • Opposite Falter in the second game of this early-season doubleheader will be right-hander Lucas Giolito, who has fallen from grace quite a bit since his 2020 no-hitter. After posting an 82 ERA+ in 30 starts last year, the 28-year-old has a 6.00 ERA in three starts and 15 innings of work this season. He has continued to strike guys out at a highly-impressive rate, but is not doing enough to keep runners off the bases and to prevent hard contact.
