The Philadelphia Phillies (6-10) are set to take on the Chicago White Sox (6-10) for an old fashioned Tuesday doubleheader. Both clubs have struggled out of the gate, with the Phillies in particular expected to be a part of the divisional playoff picture as the season marches on.

Phillies vs. White Sox, probable starting pitchers for Game 1, April 18 doubleheader

  • Zack Wheeler, the staff ace for the Phillies, will take the mound and make his fourth start of the 2023 season. The 32-year-old is always lethal on the mound and is sure to give this White Sox offense fits as he looks to improve on a so-so start to the season. In three appearances and 15.2 innings of work, Wheeler has a 4.02 ERA (thanks to seven earned runs on 15 hits) but has continued to efficiently strike guys out (10.3 SO/9) in the early goings.
  • Wheeler will go head-to-head with another longtime veteran of the game, Lance Lynn. The 35-year-old has shown glimpses of greatness over the course of a 12-year career in The Show, but has struggled mightily this year. In three starts and 16 innings, Lynn has a ghastly 7.31 ERA and 7.08 FIP, thanks to a whopping 13 earned runs and six home runs allowed in such a small sample.
