Philadelphia Phillies probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Atlanta Braves, September 13
Everything you need to know, as the Phillies aim to salvage a series tie in Wednesday's finale versus the Braves at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies (79-66) have shown they can compete with the best, during this series with the Braves (95-50). However, they've only been able to win one of the three games thus far. Tuesday's loss was particularly frustrating, with the Phillies recovering from a 6-1 deficit but ultimately losing 7-6 in extra innings. If nothing else they still enter Wednesday's series finale with a 1.5 advantage for the top NL Wild Card position, as well as a 4.5 game lead over teams outside a playoff spot.
Probable starting pitchers
- Cristopher Sánchez (2-3) has been tremendous during a breakout season in Philadelphia. To date he has produced a 3.26 ERA, 4.15 WHIP and 1.038 WHIP in 15 starts. The Phillies have been looking to protect Sánchez a a bit more of late, as evidenced by a eight-day rest prior to his last start. (Albeit also to get Zack Wheeler on his regular schedule.) He proved effective regardless in said start versus the Marlins, allowing just four hits, one walk and no runs in 5.0 innings.
- In many respects, Spencer Strider (16-5) is having a fantastic season in Atlanta. He leads the Majors in wins and strikeouts, as well as the NL in FIP. For the Braves specifically, Strider leads all regular starters in WHIP and is tied for the team lead with 16 quality outings in 28 appearances. This all said, his previous start versus the Cardinals was one of his worst of the year, giving up six hits, three walks and six earned runs in a season-low 2.2 innings.
