The San Diego Padres are starting to find something, improving to 7-3 in their last 10 games with a win on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Phillies.
But, don't count out the Phillies in this series just quite yet. Taijuan Walker will get the ball today to face-off against Blake Snell of the Padres in what will serve as Game 1 of a double-header. I think this could be a great spot to back the Phillies as home underdogs.
Let's dive into the odds for the game.
Padres vs. Phillies odds, run line, and total
Run line:
- Padres: -1.5 (+125)
- Phillies: +1.5 (-145)
Moneyline:
- Padres: -130
- Phillies +110
Total:
- 9 (Over -120/Under +100)
Padres vs. Phillies prediction and pick
Blake Snell has been red hot in recent starts, allowing just three earned runs over his last 48 innings pitched. After a rough start to the season, he's all of a sudden the hottest pitcher in the Majors. But, with that being said, that doesn't mean we shouldn't bet against him and the Padres.
San Diego is still only 7-11 in Snell starts this season, mainly due to their 11th ranked bullpen over the last 30 days. Meanwhile, the Phillies bullpen has been the second best in the National League over that same time frame, sporting a bullpen ERA over the past 30 days of just 2.94.
Snell isn't the only pitcher that's been hot lately. Taijuan Walker has also been fantastic over the past month. In fact, he rocked a 1.50 ERA in six starts in the month of June.
So, with all of that considered, as well as the fact the Phillies are listed as underdogs at home, I'm going to take Philadelphia to get the job done in the first game of today's double-header.
Pick: Phillies +110
