Former Phillies star second baseman and MLB's European Ambassador Chase Utley has been the driving force in Major League Baseball's marketing campaign for the upcoming Philadelphia Phillies-New York Mets London Series.

In the lead-up to the series, the Phillies, Mets, and MLB have produced several videos and shorts promoting the event, including a ton of different calls to famous English landmarks and cultural aspects. In a recent video posted on social media, Utley joins an old friend and a Phillies fan favorite in a hilarious mashup between an iconic Philadelphia-based TV show and the team.

Former It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia cast member, Wrexham FC owner, and Philadelphia native Rob McElhenney joined with MLB to help promote the London Series by recreating an iconic relationship from the show but replacing Chase Utley with the Phillies' new star, Bryce Harper.

Throughout the sixteen seasons that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was on the air, McElhenney's character "Mac" had an undying love for his Phillies and his favorite player, Utley, and idolized the second baseman. For 10 years Mac wrote letters to his favorite player until finally meeting him in the last season of the show.

Mac finally got his closure when Utley threw out the first pitch to McElhenney on Utley's retirement night at Citizens Bank Park.

This wasn't the only encounter between the cast members and the Phillies. In the episode titled "The World Series Defense," the cast gets trapped while looking for a secret tunnel from the hotel nearby as their way to get into the 2008 World Series.

During the NLCS last season, the gang made another appearance when they entered the field from the dugout between innings to hype up the crowd. McElhenney joined his co-star Charlie Day, his co-star/wife Kaitlin Olson and the Phillie Phanatic in an energetic celebration, helping to propel the team to a Game 2 victory.

Now, in 2024 with a new team leader in town, Mac sets his sights on Bryce Harper, his new idol.

In the promo, Mac writes Harper an almost identical letter to the one from the show. Harper asks Utley for help, and the Phillies legend knows exactly what to do. After confronting McElhenney, Utley gives him an ultimatum: He has to choose between Utley and Harper.

Could there be something special awaiting Phillies fans in London?

At the end of the clip posted by McElhenney, it cuts to a voiceover saying: "Who will Rob choose? Chase or Bryce?"

The promotion of this clip points towards either another build up video with the answer or possibly even an on-field appearence from the trio. With the series being played in the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, MLB will likely pull out all the stops to make the games as much of a spectacle as possible.

As McElhenney is one of the owners of the uber-popular Wrexham FC located in the United Kingdom, it's likely that he will be well-known among the fans there. With the combination of MLB's European Ambassador and one of MLB's most recognizable athletes, baseball fans around the world should be tuned in for a show.
