Angels vs. Phillies prediction and odds for Monday, August 28 (Back Philly's Bats)

The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the hottest teams in baseball this month and are coming off a sweep of the Cardinals. The Angels have fallen well under .500.

It took a while, but the Philadelphia Phillies have hit their stride. This weekend, they swept the Cardinals and are now 72-58 heading into a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels. The LA Angels took two of three over the weekend, but are just running out the clock on the year with an injured Shohei Ohtani leading the way.

The Phillies will send Taijuan Walker to the mound for Game 1 against Lucas Giolito. Walker is 13-5 with a 4.02 ERA while Giolito, LA’s deadline acquisition, is 7-10 with a 4.32 ERA in 26 starts.

Angels vs. Phillies prediction and pick

In August, the Phillies are 15-9 with a 3.54 team ERA and a league best team OPS of .885. They are the No. 1 Wild Card team in the National League and that’s about the best they can do with the Braves in their division.

This has been the month of Trea Turner who has brought his OPS for the year up to .711 and this month has an .881 OPS with five home runs and a .302 average. It also doesn’t hurt that Bryce Harper is tearing the cover off the ball with seven homers, 19 RBI, and a 1.166 OPS. With Turner and Harper leading the way for this red hot offense, they have scored the second most runs in baseball this month.

That lineup will be facing Lucas Giolito today which is good news for the Phillies. Giolito has struggled mightily as an Angel with a 6.68 ERA and a 6.12 FIP. In his five starts he’s given up seven home runs. That’s quite a lot against the team that is leading the MLB in home runs this month.

This is a great spot to back the Phillies against a struggling LA team and their struggling starting pitcher.
