J.T. Realmuto doubles down on Phillies’ bold preseason goal

The Phillies' long losing stretch hasn’t affected their season-long goal of a World Series championship.

The Philadelphia Phillies have had a lot of success over the last three seasons. The club has made two playoff appearances, including a World Series appearance in 2022, and is 1.0 game back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League standings with 28 games left in the regular season.

The time for the Phillies to win is now.

The Phillies made an improbable run to the World Series in 2022 after Rob Thomson took over for Joe Girardi 51 games into the season. They ultimately lost in six games to the Astros, but it started a winning trend in Philadelphia after an 11-year playoff drought.

The Phillies fell one win short of back-to-back World Series appearances in 2023, but that hasn’t changed their mindset in 2024. From the beginning of this season, the Phillies had one goal in mind: win the World Series.

J.T. Realmuto doubles down on Phillies’ bold preseason goal

Star catcher J.T. Realmuto recently doubled down on the Phillies’ bold goal heading into the 2024 season.

“Whether we win the division, win a postseason series, get to the World Series, none of that stuff is good enough for our team,” Realmuto said earlier this week, per former Phillies TV reporter Gregg Murphy. “We want to win the World Series, and that’s our only goal.”

The Phillies have high expectations. That will happen when a team makes consistent, deep playoff runs. The organization has also made major moves over the last few years bringing in big-money players to help solidify this team and give them the best chance to bring a title back to the City of Brotherly Love.

Realmuto isn’t the only player on this team with his eyes set on a World Series championship. The leader of the Phillies, Bryce Harper, believes it’s this team’s time to win it all.

Harper said before the season started that everyone involved with the Phillies organization deserves a World Series, including the fans. The two-time MVP understands that this is the window for this team to do so because it won’t last forever. Harper has one thing missing in his 13-year career, and that’s a World Series ring. He wants nothing more than to bring the trophy home to Philadelphia.

Perhaps the person who wants to win the most is Phillies owner John Middleton. Middleton has proved his commitment to winning by bringing in superstar players like Harper and Trea Turner. He’s a Phillies fan through and through who has his eyes set on a World Series championship in 2024 with the chance for more in the next few years.

Time for the Phillies to achieve their preseason goal of a World Series championship

The Phillies started the 2024 season on a historic pace, winning 62 games before the All-Star break. The entire pitching staff was dominant and the lineup was full of firepower from top to bottom. Then, the Phillies fell into a prolonged slump to start the second half of the season.

The Phillies were 7-16 through Aug. 13 after the break. The pitching staff wasn’t as dominant as the first half, and the offense went cold. Phillies fans fell into a state of panic.

The Phillies are 10-5 over their last 15 games, including two straight series wins against the second-place Kansas City Royals and the first-place Houston Astros. The Phillies began an important four-game series against the division-rival Atlanta Braves on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies are 6.0 games up on the Braves in the NL East standings after a 5-4 comeback win in the series opener.

The MLB regular season is heading into the final stretch. It’s time for the Phillies to lock in, put the losing behind them and focus on the ultimate goal of winning the World Series.
