Hopefully he's back on track.

The Philadelphia Phillies had trouble putting together an outfield in 2026. One youngster, Felix Reyes, looked brutal in his first go-round in the Majors and ended the season on the minor league injured list. However, the fact that the Phils just sent him to play winter ball in the Dominican Republic is good news for both him and the team.

The Phillies signed Reyes as an international free agent back in February of 2020 out of the Dominican Republic, but he didn’t start his professional career until the following year because of the canceled minor league season. He spent the next four years languishing in the lower levels of the minors, topping out with a .714 OPS between Low-A and High-A in 2023.

A spectacular 2025 season got Felix Reyes to the Major Leagues, but a rough debut and a broken wrist have made his future uncertain

Suddenly, everything changed in 2025 when the gargantuan outfielder got his first crack at the upper levels of the Phillies’ system. In 95 games with Double-A Reading, Reyes hit 15 homers and 53 total extra-base hits en route to a .937 OPS. That tremendous campaign earned him a brief look in Triple-A to end the season, and he came into 2026 ready to compete for a spot in the bigs.

The 25-year-old began the 2026 season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and was promoted when Otto Kemp failed to contribute after a rough April. Reyes made his Major League debut on April 18, and hit a home run in his first at-bat against future Hall of Famer Chris Sale. Unfortunately, that was his brightest moment, as he put up a measly .158/.158/.263 line in a dozen games before being sent back down in mid-May.

Reyes didn't play another game with the parent club, and the Phillies placed Reyes on the 60-day Injured List in August after he broke his wrist to open up a 40-man roster spot. And with that, Reyes’ season was over.

After recovering from his wrist injury, he returned to his home country to play for the Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League (a team that includes former Phillies Yairo Muñoz and Spencer Turnbull). With any luck, he’ll showcase more of the right-side power stroke he displayed in Lehigh Valley this past season with 38 extra-base hits; a skill set the Phillies sorely lack.

The Phillies have a lot of work to do this offseason to fix the outfield. With Adolis García a free agent, and All-Star Brandon Marsh a question mark after a miserable second half, the door is open for a possible corner outfield upgrade. A high-profile free agent like Seiya Suzuki or Randy Arozarena could solidify the mix, but a healthy Reyes would add depth to an organization that desperately needs it.
