Dave Dombrowski and the Philadelphia Phillies have continued to work on rebuilding the farm system since he took over as the president of baseball operations. In 2021, when Dombrowski took over, the Phillies had only one player, Mick Abel, in MLB Pipeline's Top 100 at No. 76. Brandon Marsh was in the Top 100 in the Los Angeles Angels' farm system.
Now, after the latest update, the Phillies' farm system continues to boom, with MLB Pipeline featuring a new Phillies addition to the Top 100.
Aroon Escobar the latest Phillies prospect to rise into the Top 100
After the latest mid-season updated prospect rankings, the Phillies now have six players in the Top 100 after the addition of infielder Aroon Escobar. Escobar (Phillies No. 6, MLB No. 97) joins the five others in the Top 100: Andrew Painter (No. 10), Aidan Miller (No. 22), Justin Crawford (No. 49), Eduardo Tait (No. 63), and Mick Abel (No. 87).
Escobar makes the jump into the Top 100 after a strong 2025 campaign, with a slash line of .286/.376/.449. He has driven in 44 runs with 11 home runs and 12 doubles, mostly with the Single-A Clearwater Threshers. He is 20 years old and just received a promotion to High-A Jersey Shore. Escobar has been with the Phillies organization since January 2022, when they signed him out of Venezuela as a free agent to a minor league contract.
The impressive mark of these six players, with Abel already reaching the MLB, is that there could be two others in the 2025 season potentially called up in Crawford and Painter. Miller could find himself in the big leagues in 2026 potentially.
Crawford is having a standout season with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate. He is slashing .339/.410/.444. He has 97 hits on the season, driving in 29 runs. He has stolen 28 bases in 70 games, primarily hitting in the lead off spot.
Painter is expected to reach the big leagues sometime after the All-Star break and is one of the most awaited debuts for a Phillies pitcher in a long time. He has struggled over his last few starts, so it will be interesting to see when the Phillies make the call for Painter. He finds himself with a 4.97 ERA through 11 starts and 50 2/3 innings of work in Triple-A.
The Phillies have built an impressive pool of prospects overall the last four years at an important time as well with the trade deadline looming. It will be intriguing to follow what potential moves who out of the six could be moved over the next coming weeks, to make a push for a championship.
Other highlights from the latest update include Abel rising 11 spots after his major league call-up and making six big league starts. The MLB Pipeline rankings were not the only ones that have respected the Phillies' prospects, as Baseball America has six Phillies in its Top 100 prospects as well (subscription required).
The Phillies are tied for second for the most prospects in the Top 100, only behind the Seattle Mariners, who have a league-high nine prospects reaching the Top 100.
