The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers meet for Game 3 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. The Dodgers have a stranglehold on the series and can sweep the Phillies tonight with their fifth consecutive win this postseason.

The Phillies have nothing to lose at this point, facing elimination after dropping both games at home. If they're going to win, they'll have to do it without Harrison Bader in the starting lineup, again.

First pitch is scheduled for 9:08 p.m. ET, so it's going to be a late one for fans on the East Coast. Hopefully the Phillies give us all something worth staying up for. Whatever the outcome tonight, at least the Phillies will look good doing it, sporting their throwback powder blue uniform instead of their road grays.

Harrison Bader absent again from Phillies' starting lineup for NLDS Game 3

Phillies fans were really hoping that Bader's injured hamstring (yes, it's actually a hamstring strain) would be good enough to go in Wednesday's Game 3 tilt. Unfortunately, as they head into a do-or-die game, the Phillies will be without Bader for the second straight game.

While we could see him make another pinch-hit cameo and possibly even run the bases, he's not quite ready to chase down balls in the outfield just yet, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. It's unfortunate that one of their trade deadline acquisitions won't be able to contribute more in a crucial elimination game.

Without Bader manning center field, here's how Phillies manager Rob Thomson set his lineup for Game 3 of the NLDS:

  • 1. SS Trea Turner (R)
  • 2. DH Kyle Schwarber (L)
  • 3. 1B Bryce Harper (L)
  • 4. 3B Alec Bohm (R)
  • 5. CF Brandon Marsh (L)
  • 6. C J.T. Realmuto (R)
  • 7. LF Max Kepler (L)
  • 8. RF Nick Castellanos (R)
  • 9. 2B Bryson Stott (L)

Phillies vs. Dodgers starting pitchers for NLDS Game 3

Veteran Aaron Nola will get the start in the Phillies' biggest game of the season. Thomson announced the decision following Game 2. The right-hander struggled this season, posting a 6.01 ERA in 17 starts. The Phillies will be hoping to see the version of Nola who dominated in his final regular season start. If not, he'll be on a short leash, with Ranger Suárez lined up to pitch behind him.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto will toe the rubber for the Dodgers. The 27-year-old righty won his start in the Wild Card Series, striking out nine Cincinnati Reds over 6 2/3 innings. The Phillies faced Yamamoto once this season, scoring one unearned run against him in six innings. He struck out five and walked three in that April outing.
