It may feel like the Eastern Seaboard is buried in the middle of the depths of winter (which we are) but spring got a little closer on Friday. With less than three weeks until pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater, Florida, the Philadelphia Phillies announced their official list of spring training non-roster invitees.
Most notably, Phillies fans will be happy to see two specific names that appear on the list. Top prospects Justin Crawford and Aidan Miller are among the 27 players who will be heading to big league camp.
To those unfamiliar, players on the 40-man roster are automatically part of the major league spring training camp. Players not on the 40-man roster need to be extended invitations to attend. While some of these non-roster players will have a chance to win an Opening Day job, most of them are there to either showcase themselves for the future, for other teams, or just act as warm bodies.
Crawford and Miller will join top pitching prospect Andrew Painter, who's already on the 40-man roster, in camp as three of the most fascinating young names to watch.
The Phillies have invited the following 27 players to attend major league spring training as non-roster invitees:

Top prospects Justin Crawford, Aidan Miller highlight Phillies' spring training non-roster invitees
Crawford, who just turned 22, is being given the runway to take the Opening Day starting center field job. The Phillies' first-round draft pick in 2022 ranks as their No. 3 MLB Pipeline prospect although evaluators have been torn on whether his skill set will play in the majors.
Crawford has game-changing speed and plenty of pop in his bat, but players who hit the ball on the ground as often as he does (59.4 percent of the time) have a smaller margin for success. There's no denying his talent, however. He led the Triple-A International League batting .334 in 2025 with an .863 OPS, seven home runs, and 46 stolen bases.
The son of former MLB star Carl Crawford has nothing left to prove in the minor leagues. The Phillies are hoping that his bat and glove are good enough to secure an everyday role in 2026.
Miller, 21, is the Phillies' No. 2 prospect and will head into camp as one of the most intriguing names to watch. The Phillies don't currently have an open spot on the infield for the talented shortstop, but this spring training could be an audition for a call-up at some point this season.
It's no secret that the Phillies' 2023 first-round pick struggled in Double-A Jersey Shore to begin the 2025 season. However, he turned things around with a scorching-hot 31-game stretch from July 27 to Sept. 7 when he hit .361 with a 1.100 OPS. He finished the year with a brief but impressive stint in Triple-A Lehigh Valley, batting .333 with a 1.032 OPS in eight games.
The Phillies have said that they'd be open to moving Miller to another position, possibly second or third base. With Trea Turner at short for the foreseeable future, it will be interesting to see if the team opts to start Miller's transition to another infield spot in Clearwater.
Phillies fans are hoping to see both Crawford and Miller play significant roles in spring training games when Grapefruit League action gets underway.
