The Philadelphia Phillies roster is beginning to take shape, with the regular season less than two weeks away. The organization made roster cuts on March 12 and 13. The reassigned players consisted of young prospects who aren't ready for the majors yet.
Philadelphia will have two of its top prospects make the Opening Day roster, in all likelihood, in Justin Crawford and Andrew Painter. The team doesn't have one of the strongest prospect systems in baseball, but there may be some improvement if the young players can progress this year in the minors. One of the Phillies' other top-ranked prospects, who's battling a lingering back injury, was among the roster cuts: Aidan Miller, whose rehab will continue out of the spotlight.
Aidan Miller headlines long list of Phillies spring training roster cuts
Miller is one of the notable names from the Phillies' latest round of roster cuts. The shortstop is dealing with a back injury that has prevented him from playing this spring with the team. Philadelphia planned on giving the Dunedin, Florida, native time at third base in spring training, as they have Trea Turner locked in long-term at shortstop. Miller may not be available at the start of the regular season for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs due to his back ailment.
Other players the Phillies assigned to minor league camp with Miller included catchers Caleb Ricketts, Kehden Hettiger, and Mark Kolozsvary, as well as pitchers Michael Mercado and Andrew Bechtold.
Ricketts compiled a .333/.333/.333 slash line with a .666 OPS in seven games this spring. Hettiger went 2-for-8 with one home run and two RBI, along with a .222/.364/.667 line and a 1.031 OPS in eight contests. Kolozsvary, Mercado, and Bechtold didn't play in any contests before Philadelphia reassigned them.

Before the Phillies' Grapefruit League game versus the Baltimore Orioles on March 13, Philadelphia announced some other players who have been reassigned to their minor league camp. They included infielders Aroon Escobar, Carson DeMartini, and Bryan Rincon, in addition to outfielder Dylan Campbell.
Escobar is the team's sixth-best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The second baseman will begin the year with the Reading Fightin' Phils in Double-A. He still needs to develop further in the minors following his struggles in spring training. The 21-year-old totaled a .105/.190/.158 slash line with a .348 OPS. His estimated time of arrival in the major leagues is 2028, according to MLB Pipeline.
Rincon totaled a .238/.304/.571 slash line with a .875 OPS in 14 games with the Phillies. Martini slashed a .125/.222/.313 and a .535 OPS in 14 contests. Campbell had a .125/.125/.250 slash line with a .375 OPS.

The Phillies players who have been reassigned will aim to get more experience this year to continue their progress in the minor leagues. Miller and Escobar are the top two highest-ranked prospects on this list and will be worth keeping tabs on throughout this year. The fan base will be paying attention to Miller once he returns from his injury. It's still possible he makes his major league debut this summer with Philadelphia.
