Usually dominated by Kyle Schwarber, a different Phillie topped the countdown of the team's longest homers of the year in 2024.

Every season baseball fans marvel at the impressive feats of the players, on the mound, in the field and at the plate. One of the most eye-popping things we love to watch is home runs. From majestic moonshots to laser beams that disappear into the outfield stands in a split second, all types of homers are always a fan favorite.

Ask Philadelphia Phillies fans who they think had the longest homer this past season, and you’ll probably hear names like Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Nick Castellanos mentioned repeatedly. Those are usually good answers. Last year's countdown of the five longest Phillies home runs of 2023 featured all of those names, with Schwarber dominating the list and Harper and Castellanos both making an appearance.

This year’s list of the longest home runs has an interesting mix of names and a somewhat surprising leader. Schwarber had another strong showing in 2024, recording two of the team's longest bombs (444 feet and 447 feet). Castellanos made it back on the list with a 445-foot blast, and surprise newcomer to the countdown Edmundo Sosa hit a 450-foot moonshot.

But the longest homer of the Phillies' 2024 season belonged to shortstop Trea Turner. While a slender build, the veteran knows how to generate power, as he proved when he launched a 459-foot homer to deep left field against the Atlanta Braves on July 5 as part of a two-homer performance. The sixth-inning blast came against Max Fried, who left a slider on the inner part of the plate, and Turner got a hold of it with a 108.4 mph exit velocity.

The two-run blast that put the Phillies up 5-2 in a game they would eventually win 8-6 over their division rivals was the longest of Turner's career. It left his manager, Rob Thomson, in disbelief.

“He’s not the biggest man on the planet,” Thomson said after the game, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. “I don’t know how he hits the ball so far.”

It was Turner's second multi-homer game in four days and was part of a three-week stretch in which he ravaged opposing pitching to the tune of a .356 batting average and a .767 slugging percentage with 10 home runs and 22 RBI. He finished the season with 21 homers.
