It could come together quickly. Or not at all.

The Alec Bohm offseason trade rumor machine has already started. After the Philadelphia Phillies took calls on trade offers for the thirdbaseman last winter, there's a chance Bohm gets dealt this offseason, and it could happen quickly.

The Athletic's Matt Gelb recently outlined how the Phillies could possibly trade Alec Bohm this winter (subscription required) if they don't want to lose him for nothing as a free agent next offseason.

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski will need to significantly lower his asking price for Bohm compared to last offseason, when there were rumors of a trade involving the infielder. Dombrowski wanted top talent in return.

The executive's trade pitch was that the club receiving Bohm would be getting the starting third baseman from the 2024 All-Star Game. No club with potential interest in Bohm was willing to meet Dombrowski's ridiculous trade demand.

Phillies could trade Alec Bohm quickly this offseason

According to Gelb, teams desperately looking for offense might be willing to take a chance on Bohm for one season, but not for a top prospect. He thinks that the Phillies have a better chance of swapping Bohm for a player with similar service time and salary but who would be a better roster fit.

Bohm's statistics this year were not as good as in 2024. He had a significant drop in doubles, with a career-high 44 last year compared to only 18 this year. Granted, he played in 23 fewer regular season contests in 2025, but this was surprising considering how many doubles he had the year before.

Bohm's .741 OPS was lower than his previous two seasons, and his 59 RBIs were his lowest in four years. The 29-year-old's bWAR in 2025 was 1.3, which was significantly lower than his career-best 3.0 from a year ago. His 102 OPS+ was his lowest in three seasons.

Gelb thinks that while it would be surprising for the Phillies to non-tender Bohm, if they really wanted to get out from his projected $10.3 million arbitration salary, they could push for a quick trade before the Nov. 21 non-tender deadline.

"Even with those types of trades, it can be challenging to find a match," Gelb writes. "It would be surprising if the Phillies non-tendered Bohm, but if they are intent on moving him and think the $10 million would be better spent elsewhere, they could push for a trade before the Nov. 21 tender deadline. The equation has changed because Bohm has only one year of club control remaining. That makes it a little easier to have a proper valuation of him."

If they trade Bohm and spend his salary on other free agents, they could use that money on one or more players. The Phillies could use another third baseman, if they move on from him, an outfielder and a reliever.

They are likely to sign another outfielder and add another pitcher to the bullpen this winter, regardless of what happens with Bohm. The Phillies only have a few weeks until the Nov. 21 non-tender deadline, so they don't have much time to execute a trade.

The Phillies won't receive much in return. He is one year away from free agency and can be an erratic player both offensively and defensively. Dombrowski needs to realize that and accept the third baseman's trade value.
