The Philadelphia Phillies had quite the feat going, with their designated hitter Kyle Schwarber putting together a historic on-base streak. Schwarber was successfully able to reach base in 47 games straight dating back to Sept. 23, 2024. Sadly, it came to an end in Game 1 of the Wednesday double-header against the St. Louis Cardinals, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
Nevertheless, the streak was impressive for Schwarber. It was also MLB's longest such streak since Tommy Pham did it in 48 consecutive games from 2018-19. Schwarber's evolution as a hitter has enhanced his threat in the batter's box along with his worth as a star on the Phillies, per MLB.com's Thomas Harrigan. The streak also propelled him into an elite class of Phillies to achieve similar feats.
Kyle Schwarber's 47-game on-base streak puts him in elite company in Phillies history
Schwarber's 47-game on-base streak now grants him the fourth-highest streak in Phillies franchise history. Mike Schmidt still leads the way with a 56-game streak from 1981-82, followed by Chuck Klein's 49 games in 1930, Bobby Abreu's 48 from 2000-01 and now Schwarber's 47-game streak from 2024-25. The all-time record in baseball history is quite a leap, with Ted Williams reaching base an astounding 84 consecutive games in 1949.
Schwarber has been an on-base machine, and to have him in an elite class among other Phillies greats feels right at home. Schwarber has revived his career in Philadelphia to a height that Phillies fans are even surprised about.
He just seems to be getting better with age and given how he's currently tied for the MLB lead in home runs with 15 entering Friday, his 2025 season looks that much better. At 32 years old, Schwarber is batting .261/.393/.580, good for the sixth-best OPS in baseball at .973. His on-base streak has also highlighted his jump in on-base percentage, as his current .393 is a whopping 48 points higher than his career mark of .345.
Schwarber will go down as an all-time Phillies player. Whether that chapter comes to a close after this year or in a few years after, remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, and it's that there's a reason he has accumulated accolades as a member of the Phillies, and it again proves the Phillies have a special player on their hands for however long they have left with Schwarber.
