The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the top teams in Major League Baseball and that won’t change in 2025. The core group will return with new additions such as Jesús Luzardo, Jordan Romano and Max Kepler hopeful to help this team win a World Series championship.
It was a disappointing end to the 2024 season losing to the New York Mets in four games during the NLDS. The Phillies finished with the second-best record in baseball with 95 wins and earned their first division title since 2011.
The Phillies have increased their regular season win total in each of the last three seasons when they made the playoffs. The team has regressed in how far they’ve advanced in the playoffs since its World Series appearance in 2022.
Phillies have the highest stakes on the line in NL East in 2025
The Mets signed superstar outfielder Juan Soto to a massive contract this offseason and have high expectations heading into 2025. The Atlanta Braves are looking to bounce back after an injury-riddled season and Wild Card exit. Neither team has higher stakes in the NL East for this upcoming season than the Phillies.
The Phillies’ core is aging and nearing the end of their deals. Soon-to-be 32-year-old Kyle Schwarber and soon-to-be 34-year-old J.T. Realmuto are heading into contract years in 2025. Nick Castellanos will be a free agent after the 2026 season.
The Phillies brought Schwarber and Castellanos in before the 2022 season to pair with Realmuto and Bryce Harper. The foursome came together to give the Phillies one of the most dangerous lineups in the majors with younger players like Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm making significant contributions of their own.
The Phillies should feature one of the best lineups in 2025. The starting rotation is among the best, but left-hander Ranger Suárez, like Schwarber and Realmuto, is heading into a contract year.
The NL East is one of the toughest divisions in baseball, but the Phillies have the talent to compete and win. It’ll be tough to dethrone the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League, but 2025 might be the Phillies’ final chance to win a World Series before faces start to change.
