Phillies' gutsy comeback win snapped an unbelievable Brewers' streak

The Phillies showed that they have one of the best records in MLB for a reason in Monday’s impressive win.

With the regular season coming to a close later this month, the Philadelphia Phillies ended the Labor Day Weekend with the first in a three-game series against arguably one of the best teams in baseball, the Milwaukee Brewers. With both teams in first place in their respective divisions within the National League, the atmosphere at American Family Field on Monday felt like that of playoff baseball.

When looking at projections of the two teams going head to head, any analysis would try to convince you that the Brewers would win any of the three games. However, after last night's come-from-behind win, these 2025 Phillies are proving that they still have juice in their tank, and that they are looking for a better showing this year, compared to 2024's disappointment against the New York Mets. After starting the game down 4-0, Bryce Harper woke up the rest of the offense, and the team ended up beating the Brewers 10-8 in a seesaw game.

According to CBS Sports Philadelphia writer Jeff Kerr, the resilient rally snapped the Brewers' 47-game win streak in which they were leading by four or more runs.

Major Phillies win sets the best team in baseball off kilter as both teams vie for home field advantage

Monday afternoon's win against the Brew Crew put the Phillies within four and half games of Milwaukee for the best record in the NL, as Philadelphia continues to cut down the Brewers' lead for the top spot in the NL while maintaining their six-game lead over the Mets in the NL East.

Thanks to outfielders Brandon Marsh and the red-hot newly acquired, Harrison Bader, the Phillies continued to rally. They reminded not just the fans in attendance, but all those who have been feeling the lulls of the latter half of baseball's season, how good they are as the dog days start to cool off and fall ball peeks around the corner.

In addition to the win being a huge momentum builder for the Phillies, this series will also directly impact the seeding for the NL postseason race. Both the Brewers and Phillies are trying to maintain one of the best records to secure a first-round bye and not have to worry about the Wild Card. Additionally, had the Brewers won last night, they would have secured the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Phillies, which could result in a higher playoff seed. However, with Monday’s win they now need to take the remaining two games to have a chance at securing the tiebreaker over Milwaukee.

With the Phillies having one of the toughest schedules left in baseball, this hard-fought win was beyond important for this club. They needed this win against a true playoff contender after dropping three in New York last week before their winning homestand against the Braves. With the narrative having circulated all season that the Phillies can't perform well against teams above .500, the win has begun to prove that this team, which, as of late, has been very reminiscent of the "underdog" mentality that helped them succeed in 2022, can compete against the best in the sport.
