The Philadelphia Phillies finally made at least one of the roster moves fans have been begging for most of the season. Ahead of Tuesday's game against the New York Mets, the Phillies released veteran reliever Joe Ross.

While Phillies fans are also eager to see the last of Jordan Romano, especially after Monday's performance, he's heading to the 15-day IL with "right finger inflammation," the team announced.

Right-handers Lou Trivino and Daniel Robert were recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill the two empty bullpen spots.

It felt like only a matter of time until Ross was no longer part of the 2025 Phillies. It may have taken a bit longer than fans would have liked, with Monday's outing the final straw for the front office.

With the team parting ways with the veteran right-hander, Phillies president Dave Dombrowski has taken at least one loss on his offseason free agent signings. How long Romano sticks around after his stint on the IL remains to be seen.

Ross, a former World Series champion, signed a one-year, $4 million contract in Philadelphia over the winter. He finishes his Phillies career with a 5.12 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 51 innings. He allowed three runs in the embarrassing 13-3 loss at Citi Field on Monday.

Romano, a former two-time All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays, stumbled out of the gate for the Phillies and has never really gotten right. Even with some stretches of scoreless outings, there was always another multi-run disaster, like on Monday, waiting around the corner to torment Phillies fans.

Trivino, 33, is a Pennsylvania native and attended Slippery Rock University. The Phillies signed Trivino in early August. In seven innings with the IronPigs, he didn't allow a run, recording seven strikeouts and three walks.

He has previously pitched in the majors with the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and most recently the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 323 1/3 MLB innings, Trivino has a 3.92 ERA with 328 strikeouts dating back to his debut in 2018.

Robert, 30, is back for his fourth stint with the Phillies this season after recently coming off the IL with a blister issue and pitching in Lehigh Valley. An early May trade addition, Robert carries a 5.79 ERA and 1.82 WHIP with 12 strikeouts but eight walks in 9 1/3 innings.
