The Philadelphia Phillies looked dead in the water after a misplay by their star, Bryce Harper, in the outfield, leading to a late two-run inning by the Atlanta Braves in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series. Starter Cristopher Sánchez was still on the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning when Harper misjudged a fly ball, coughing up the tiebreaking run. Sánchez walked back into the clubhouse after the conclusion of the inning and stayed there for the game-tying home run by Harper the following half-inning, leading to an awesome story.

Sánchez caught Harper before heading to the clubhouse and let him know that he had his teammate's back, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

“I told him that he was bound to have a great moment,” Sánchez said via team interpreter Diego D’Aniello, per Zolecki.

The Phillies immediately answered with back-to-back homers by Kyle Schwarber and Harper himself. Each blast subsequently quieted the Atlanta crowd more. Harper's had a little more meaning behind it, erasing the egregious mistake that had just taken place. Sánchez could not have been happier to see his redemption take place. He was just taking in the moment like the rest of the Phillies fans.

“It's amazing,” Sánchez said via team interpreter Diego D'Aniello. “I was in here, and I just slammed everything I had close to me.”

What a moment to share among the media to show the kind of teammate Sánchez is, trying to pick up his teammate after such a horrific scene in right field. He let Harper know that he still can impact the game positively, and boy, did he. Harper did not miss the 86 mph slider from Dylan Lee and launched it for a 418-foot blast, changing the narrative completely. The face of the franchise again did what he does best.

The story Sánchez shared is a microcosm of how this season has gone. The Phillies have not performed like the juggernaut division winners of the previous two years. They came into this series scuffling and have leaned on their ability to come back late in games. The Phillies need to prove how good they are again, and that starts with playing spoilers on the road before potentially earning the return home to Citizens Bank Park. They squeaked out a win with Game 3 awaiting them on Thursday.
