It has been a while since the Philadelphia Phillies have had an infielder capture Gold Glove honors. In fact, the last infielder to do so was none other than Phillies legend Jimmy Rollins more than 13 years ago as the team’s shortstop.

However, Philadelphia currently has an infielder who has been long overdue and could end the drought pretty soon in second baseman Bryson Stott. Stott has been a defensive stalwart for the Phillies since making his debut with the club back in 2022.

He was a finalist for the National League Gold Glove at second base in both 2023 and 2024. With a strong start to his 2025 campaign, the 27-year-old is building an early case to be a frontrunner to finally take home the honors this season.

Even before the 2025 MLB season started, Stott was doing this during spring training.

Now in the heat of the regular season, Stott has continued his fine defensive form with a potential game-saving gem against the San Francisco Giants on April 17.

Just for good measure, the 27-year-old second baseman followed it up with a hot snag on a grounder two days later against the Miami Marlins.

Stott has helped convert 14 double plays to lead the National League, as well as registering a .978 fielding percentage over 22 games played. Overall, in his four seasons with the Phillies, the second baseman sports a stellar .992 fielding percentage with only 11 errors in total at the position, along with a solid 14 defensive runs saved (DRS).

More importantly, his strong play in the field has led to a resurgence at the plate this season. After having a down year in 2024, Stott has been hot ever since moving into the leadoff spot for the Phillies. He has posted a solid .298 batting average with a .802 OPS, along with 12 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 13 RBIs while going a perfect four-for-four in stolen bases.

With his convincing play both at the plate and in the field, Stott looks to become a key contributor for the Phillies once again in 2025. Hopefully, he will be able to bring home some Gold Glove hardware when all is said and done.
