The Philadelphia Phillies and their fans are still feeling the sting of losing shortstop Bo Bichette to the New York Mets. The loss was not only a letdown for the Phillies but also a complete swing in the other direction after the signing by a motivated division rival. Phillies fans are letting everyone hear their displeasure with the sudden shift, and that includes even the broadcasters.

NBC Sports Philadelphia analyst and former MLB catcher Ben Davis recently shared his thoughts on Bichette's decision to sign with the Mets on SportsRadio 94WIP. Although he kept his composure in the booth, he didn't hold back the raw feelings he shared with the fan base.

Phillies broadcaster Ben Davis says the quiet part out loud with a shot at the 'loser' Mets

Davis didn't mince words on how everything played out with Bichette.

“It’s a joke,” Davis said. “You’re just going to go where you’re going to get the best deal for you and get the most money. Whether you stink or not, you’re still going to get the most money possible. And the fact that that’s a losing organization up there. It just is. There’s something about them. They give off the vibe that they’re losers.”

Bichette was reportedly offered seven years, $200 million from the Phillies, for an average salary of around $28.5 million, a number that Bichette's camp requested. Bichette still signed a three-year, $126 million deal anyway, paying him a much more handsome $42 million per year on top of having the option to opt out after each year. It was also the Mets' pivot from losing out on outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Phillies have had their hardships in the postseason, but there's also some credence to what Davis is saying. The Phillies finished the 2025 regular season with 96 wins, 13 games ahead of the Mets in the NL East at just 83 wins.

The Mets also had an all-time collapse after starting the season with an MLB-best record in 2025 at 45-24. That was their peak. They immediately fell apart after that, losing 10 of their next 11 games. They went 38-55 from June 13 on, the sixth-worst record in baseball during that span. Davis also didn't love Bichette's comments on the Mets' supposed commitment to winning.

“They give off the vibe they’re just a losing organization,” Davis said. “And the fact that he says that, you know, they’re committed to winning. There are only a handful of teams that aren’t committed to winning. The fact that he says that like the Phillies aren’t, come on, man. Blow that smoke somewhere else.”

It's tough to judge an MLB club on their willingness to win. All teams want to win, but it's the effort that gets talked about more than anything. The Mets have tried to win, but it sounds obscene coming from Bichette at his press conference.

There was a 13-game gap between the two clubs last year, with recent examples showing how different the two clubs have acted in building their clubs. Whether it was a PR stunt for Bichette to give the Mets praise because he signed with them, the Phillies have been just as committed to winning, if not more.

The Phillies have finished with a better regular season record every year since 2018 (except 2020) and have made the playoffs the last four seasons. The only thing the Mets can claim so far is putting an expensive loser on the field every year.
