Phillies bring back popular batting practice hats for 2025 but with a twist

The popular design is still the best batting practice hat in MLB, but the new variation just feels lazy.

As the 2025 Major League Baseball season gets closer and closer, we have confirmation that at least one piece of the Philadelphia Phillies uniform collection won't be changing this year. The Phillies' popular batting practice hats will remain the same in 2025 as they were last season.

As posted by Phil Hecken of Uni Watch, MLB is reportedly bringing back all of the 2024 batting practice hat designs for the 2025 season, the Phillies included. The unveiling last spring of the Phillies' batting practice hats was unanimously lauded by fans as a hit.

Phillies bring back fan-favorite batting practice hats featuring Phillie Phanatic for 2025 season

The Phillies' batting practice cap features a blue crown and red brim. With the iconic Phillies mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, featured front and center with his signature red tongue sticking out, this design is easily the most fun and creative of the MLB batting practice hat collection.

The Phanatic is a favorite of fans and players, with superstar first baseman Bryce Harper famously incorporating the mascot into his gear and accessories. Last spring, he debuted his new Phillie Phanatic-themed bat during his spring training photo session. He has also sported Phanatic-themed cleats, a headband and a sliding mitt over the years.

As Hecken also reports, there have been some leaks of spring training and clubhouse caps for the 2025 season (yes, those are both different from the batting practice hats). However, with multiple designs floating around, it's hard to know if any of them are real.

New version of Phillies' popular batting practice hats comes with unfortunate twist

Hecken also provided an update following this year's initial release, reporting that there's also a new gray variation of these batting practice hats being released. Of course, MLB has to find a way to cash in with new merch, so this is their "new" look for 2025.

Unfortunately, this design, which swaps out all the colors except the red for a grayscale, falls flat and comes across as lazy. Whatever your take on this new gray variation is, we'll undoubtedly see them around the league this year. Teams might opt to use one design as a road batting practice cap and one as a home batting practice cap.
