The Philadelphia Phillies (3-1) opened their home schedule in style with a 6-1 win over the Colorado Rockies (1-3) on Monday afternoon. After a day off, the Phillies can secure their second series win of the young season on Wednesday behind their ace.

Cristopher Sánchez was solid in his season debut in the home opener. The lefty went 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. The bullpen threw a clean 3 2/3 innings, with Joe Ross picking up the win.

After getting off to a slow start at the plate, the Phillies' bats came alive in the seventh inning. Edmundo Sosa came up with a clutch two-run double, which Kyle Schwarber followed with a monstrous 434-foot two-run home run off the batter's eye. Max Kepler made a great first impression in front of his new home crowd by capping a three-hit day with a solo homer in the eighth. Nick Castellanos went-back-to-back with Kepler for his first long ball of the year.

The Phillies get shortstop Trea Turner back in the starting lineup today after lower back spasms had kept him out since Opening Day. He did pinch hit in Monday's win, drawing a key walk that brought Sosa to the plate.

Phillies vs. Rockies probable pitchers, April 2

  • Zack Wheeler (0-0) will take the ball for his second start for the Phillies. The ace is coming off a strong season debut on Opening Day, when he held the Washington Nationals to one run on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over six innings. After taking a no decision in the Phillies' extra-innings win, Wheeler will be looking to pick up his first victory of the new season on Tuesday.
  • Kyle Freeland (0-0) will start for the Rockies. The 31-year-old left-hander tossed six scoreless innings against the Tampa Bay Rays in his first start, allowing just two hits while striking out seven. He didn't face the Phillies in 2024, but in eight career starts against them, Freeland is 2-3 with a 3.50 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 36 innings.
