The Philadelphia Phillies (2-0) are going for their first series sweep on Sunday against the Washington Nationals (0-2) in the finale of the Opening Weekend NL East matchup. After taking the Opening Day contest 7-3 in extra innings, the Phillies won Game 2 of the season by a lopsided 11-6 score on Saturday.

New starter Jesús Luzardo was dazzling in his Phillies debut, picking up 11 strikeouts on 95 pitches over five innings. The only blemish in an otherwise dominant outing was a two-run home run to Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz, who looks locked in to begin the year.

Unfortunately for the Phillies, the victory didn't come without a price. Shortstop Trea Turner was a late scratch from the lineup, as he's dealing with lower back spasms that have been a problem since late in spring training. He's day-to-day but isn't in Sunday's lineup. Catcher J.T. Realmuto is also on the bench today with a bruised left foot. He left Saturday's tilt in the seventh, but luckily X-rays came back negative, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

Phillies vs. Nationals probable pitchers, March 30

  • Aaron Nola (0-0) will start the series finale for the Phillies. The veteran righty carries a 3.70 ERA and 1.14 WHIP into his 11th MLB season. He looked strong in four spring training starts and will look to continue that into the regular season against the Nationals. He faced Washington four times in 2024, going 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA.
  • Mitchell Parker (0-0) will start for the Nationals. The 25-year-old left-hander is entering his second MLB season after going 7-10 with a 4.29 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 29 starts in 2024. He only started one game against the Phillies last year, and it was an unmitigated disaster. Phillies hitters scorched him for nine runs on 10 hits in just three innings in a 13-3 win on Aug. 15.
