The Philadelphia Phillies (15-13) are back at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday to begin a three-game series with the Washington Nationals (13-16).
Over the weekend, the Phillies salvaged a horrific week that included a five-game losing skid and a sweep at the hands of the New York Mets. They took both weekend games from the Chicago Cubs, including a tight 3-1 affair in 10 innings on Sunday Night Baseball.
They open their six-game homestand 4.5 games behind the Mets in the NL East. The Nationals sit 2.5 games behind the Phillies in fourth place in the division. Washington is 6-4 in their last 10 games, and split a four-game series with the Mets over the weekend. However, they're coming off an absolute 19-5 thrashing in Monday's finale.
This series features the two worst bullpens by ERA, with the Nationals' 7.30 mark even worse than the Phillies' 5.28 ERA heading into Tuesday. The Phillies should have the edge in starting pitching, although ace Zack Wheeler will be facing the Nationals' top starter MacKenzie Gore in a rematch of Opening Day.
