The Philadelphia Phillies (13-9) begin a six-game road trip on Monday night when they take on the New York Mets (15-7) at Citi Field. The three-game series marks the first meeting of the NL East rivals this season since the Mets eliminated the Phillies in the NLDS last fall.
The Phillies, who won the season series 7-6 in 2024, come into the series trailing the Mets by two games for the division lead. They did win the weekend series against the Miami Marlins, but another bullpen implosion on Sunday cost them what looked like a series sweep.
The Mets are riding high after a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, which saw their prized offseason signing Juan Soto start to find his swing, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. While the Mets rank 19th with 91 runs scored so far, they have allowed an MLB-best 61 runs this season.
Phillies vs. Mets probable pitchers, April 21
- Aaron Nola (0-4, 6.65 ERA) will open the series for the Phillies. The veteran right-hander has struggled with command and velocity early this season. Nola made two starts against the Mets in 2024, which couldn't have been any more different from each other. He threw a complete-game four-hit shutout on May 14 and then gave up six runs over 4 1/3 innings on Sept. 13.
- Tylor Megill (2-2, 1.40 ERA) will take the ball for the Mets. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 1.34 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings through four starts this season. He made one start against the Phillies last season, holding them to one run on four hits with six strikeouts over four innings in a 2-1 Mets win on Sept. 22.
