The Philadelphia Phillies (22-16) and Cleveland Guardians (23-15) resume their three-game weekend series at Progressive Field with a Saturday evening matchup. The Phillies came into Cleveland flying high after sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays but found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-0 score on Friday night.
The offense failed to capitalize against Guardians starter Gavin Williams, who kept putting Phillies on base, but somehow Houdinied himself out of multiple jams. They left nine runners on base and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Aaron Nola, coming off his two best starts of the season, reverted to his early season form, allowing two home runs and four earned runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out five over his five innings and took his sixth loss of the season.
With Friday's loss, the Phillies fell 2.5 games behind the New York Mets for first place in the NL East. They'll look for better results all around on Saturday when they try to get back on the winning track.
