The Philadelphia Phillies (9-6) come home to Citizens Bank Park to open a four-game series with the San Francisco Giants (11-4) on Monday. The Phillies are probably looking forward to some home cooking on the seven-game homestand after scuffling through a 2-4 road trip that concluded with a 7-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
The Phillies mustered only 39 hits in 203 at-bats over the six games on the road, for a .192 batting average, while posting a .562 OPS. To make matters worse, they hit just .140 (6-for-43) with runners in scoring position. Third baseman Alec Bohm is 2-for-his last 33, while outfielder Brandon Marsh is now in an 0-for-26 slump.
Last year, the Phillies went 5-2 against the Giants, who at 11-4, sit 1.5 games back of the San Diego Padres in the tough NL West. The Giants are coming off a series win in New York over the Yankees, behind outfielder Jung Hoo Lee's inspired play. They're only hitting .220 as a team but have scored 75 runs. The pitching has been impressive, posting a 3.20 ERA with the fourth-fewest runs allowed (47).
Phillies vs. Giants probable pitchers, April 14
- Taijuan Walker (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will open the series for the Phillies. The veteran has posted back-to-back scoreless outings to begin his season — something he hadn't done since June 2023. He blanked the Atlanta Braves over 4 2/3 innings last week, striking out five, walking two and allowing five hits.
- Landen Roupp (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will counter for the Giants. The 26-year-old right-hander took a loss in his last start against the Cincinnati Reds despite giving up just one run on seven hits over six innings. Roupp, who debuted in 2024, has pitched in 25 MLB games. Monday will mark the former 12th-round pick's seventh start of his career.
