With the Philadelphia Phillies (24-16) back at home, they'll open a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals (22-19) at Citizens Bank Park on Monday. The Phillies will be looking to continue their run of series wins, having won five straight series after taking the Sunday Night Baseball matchup in Cleveland 3-1.

The Phillies come in to this series on a roll. They're 7-3 in their last 10 games and have won 11 of their last 14 since their late April five-game losing streak. At a season-high eight games over .500 and 1.5 games out of first place in the NL East, the Phillies will be looking for more quality starting pitching after a couple of dazzling performances this weekend by Ranger Suárez and Zack Wheeler.

The Cardinals are red-hot coming to Philadelphia, riding an eight-game winning streak which includes a series win over the New York Mets and sweeps of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals. They sit second in the NL Central, just one game behind the Chicago Cubs. St. Louis is just 7-13 on the road, however, while the Phillies sport a 13-6 home record.

These two teams played three games in St. Louis in April. The Phillies lost two of three, as the offense hit rock bottom that weekend. They were shut out twice and outscored 10-4 by the Cardinals in the series.

Phillies vs. Cardinals probable pitchers, May 12

  • Cristopher Sánchez (4-1, 2.89 ERA) will open the series for the Phillies. The lefty is coming off a six-inning, one-hit, five-strikeout shutout effort against the Tampa Bay Rays last week. Sánchez has a 1.23 WHIP and 44 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings, with three quality starts in seven outings. He has given up more than two earned runs only once.
  • Matthew Liberatore (3-3, 3.07 ERA) will counter for the Cardinals. The 25-year-old left-hander has a stingy 0.95 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 41 innings over seven starts. Liberatore is coming off a one-run start last time out, when he struck out eight Pirates over seven innings. He comes into this one with five quality starts this year.
